Painting 101: Learn painting basics @ Ogden!

PAINTING 101:
September 15, 2009 – October 20, 2009 (6 weeks)
Every Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Study and learn basic painting materials and techniques in a museum setting. Artist Anastasia Pelias (www.anastasiapelias.com) will provide individual instruction as she leads an investigation of the dynamics of color, line, scale, and space.

This course is designed for novices, but anyone wanting a refresher is welcome.

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: Limited to 20 students

Members: $150 plus $30 supply fee /
Non-members: $175 plus $30 supply fee

Author Ellen Gilchrist has captured the essence of love, longing and life through her short stories, novels and essays. She won the National Book Award for Fiction (1984) for "Victory over Japan," a collection of short stories. Her novels include "The Annunciation" (1983) and "The Cabal"(2000). This discussion is a rare opportunity to see this writer.

This event is presented by the Kohlmeyer Circle, and was funded in part by the Louisiana Division of the Arts and Poets & Writers, Inc.

Davis’ long and prolific career as an architect, he has been a pioneer in the fields of modern architecture and design in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, building an international reputation while remaining rooted in the culture of his native city. "Johnny Cash's America" (2008) sheds new light on the Arkansas-born "Man in Black," utilizing an array of sources and materials, including unreleased footage, photos and recordings, and intimate interviews with family and friends. This extraordinary documentary portrait by award-winning filmmakers Morgan Neville and Robert Gordon explores the prominent themes of Cash's life and legacy, including love of the land, freedom, justice, temptation, faith and redemption. This is the movie's Louisiana premiere. Co-presented by the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation.

About the Series: The Art of Southern Film: Established Masters/Emerging Makers at the Ogden showcases established and emerging auteurs whose films and videos present unique visions and versions of the people and places, memories and histories of the American South. Quarterly events include discussion with filmmakers and collaborators, as well as the temporary exhibition of relevant artwork.

Odgen Museum of Southern Art is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director/COO to work with the Director to oversee daily business, financial and administrative operations including: developing and maintaining budgets, financial reporting, payroll, audits, insurance, tax reports and personnel issues. Duties include working with the Director to complete museum expansion and renovation programs as well as oversight of facilities operations and security programs. Bachelor’s degree in related field, Master’s preferred. Five years financial and administrative experience, with museum or non-profit management experience preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience.
